WELCOME!
Welcome to the official website of the City of Medon.
We invite you to visit us in person at Medon City Hall, Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM-12:00 PM, if you are in the West Tennessee area.
Our town's name is pronounced "me done," supposedly proclaimed years back by an Irishman named Mike when he came home after a hard day's work!
The City of Medon was incorporated in 1852, and was once larger in size and population than the current county seat, Jackson.  Medon's history includes being a successful stagecoach stop, a railroad depot, having endured many fires, and having a reputation for once being a well-known "moonshine" capital.  Scenes from the original film "Walking Tall" were filmed just outside of Medon, and rockabilly musician Carl Perkins even used to rabbit hunt with Medon locals.  Today Medon is a quiet community with an official population of 269 residents that is located about 8 miles south of Jackson.
  GOVERNMENT
The Medon city government runs according to its 1994 revised city charter, which is available for viewing at the bottom of this webpage and at the city hall office during its regular business hours.
The Medon Board of Aldermen is Mayor Doris Jackson,
Alderman
Jeff Harris, Alderman Sheila McMaster, Alderman
Stephanie Russin,
and Alderman Ken SkeltonLorri Skelton serves as City Recorder.  The Medon Board of Aldermen meets on the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Medon City Hall & Community Center.
The Medon Board of Zoning Appeals is Chairman James Maroney, George Gross, Steve Harris, and James Wilkins.  This board meets when presented with a request to appeal a zoning regulation made by Madison County within the city limits.
The Medon Park & Recreation Department is led by Director Lorri Skelton.  This department plans programs and activities for Medon residents and presents a report to the Board of Alderman during the regular monthly business meeting.
